2006 Penguin Plunge

The 3rd Annual Penguin Plunge was once again blessed with a beautiful day for plunging into the exhilarating ocean. A sunny day at 58F and barely a breeze greeted 79 participants as they braved the 54 degree waters and breaking waves of the Atlantic Ocean. 2006 became a transition year for Penguin Plunge when organizers decided to use the event as a opportunity to raise funds for local Carteret County charities.

2006 Penguin Plunge Charity

Taylor Hyman Foundation

The 2006 Penguin Plunge participants were asked to donate a minimum of $5.00 for the Taylor Hyman Rehabilitation Fund. Taylor, who suffered a spinal cord injury while riding her bike, attended the plunge to greet and cheer for all the “penguins” and the spectators who donated over $1200 to defray the costs associated with Taylor’s rehabilitation.

Thanks to all of the generous participants and spectators who made our 3rd Penguin Plunge a charitable success!!
