From the 2024 Event! updated 4/9/24
We had 758 registered penguins for the 1/1/2024 Penguin Plunge in Atlantic Beach, NC, USA! Skies were partly cloudy, air temp was in the upper 50’s. A slight breeze didn’t stop any of us from jumping in the 56 degree ocean at 1:00 pm! We gathered with our friends and family to experience an exhilarating start to the New Year!
Many attendees wore costumes – those were so fun! The winner of the costume contest was a flashy group dressed as scuba divers and jellyfish. Answering to “the Hood” they are 7+ year veteran Penguin Plunge attendees.
There was a surprise upset in the group contest: First Methodist Church showed up with 23 registering under their group name. Congratulations, we have seen you at many previous events and hope to continue well into the future! Please look for photos & video on our social media sites!
The 2024 Penguin Plunge event charity recipient was the ECHS Band Boosters/Marching Mariners. Thanks to the support of our sponsors/donors, registered penguins and hundreds of associated spectators and towel holders, we presented the ECHS Band Boosters with a $12,500 donation on 2/5/24. The Marching Mariners have been committed to upholding the program’s legacy with unwavering passion and commitment to remain “Carteret Strong”. Their current initiative aims to enhance the Band Instrument Inventory and travel to regional competitions. We look forward to watching them move forward and shine!
